Homage To Amy Winehouse
In an upcoming episode of StyleTV, I pay homage to an amazing talent and style icon, Amy Winehouse, who like many that are addicted to drugs, died too soon. She will be missed.
In the episode I will show you how to make the Cat-Eye makeup style Amy made so popular.

Retro makes a Comeback pt.2
So the first part took care of the 70s and now I’ll tie in the 50s and 60s.
The nerdy librarian look is so in. Who said if you wore glasses you were a nerd? A blast from the past, 1950s cat eye glasses are in!

To go with the glasses you can opt for the total 1950s get up, of course books, Internet and the TV show Mad Men are a great reference. Or you can make it modern like the last picture of the model wearing a tank and shorts, it’s totally up to you, the thing about trends is to have fun with them!I myself am a 50s girl and dressed the part when I met 1950s movie star Tippy Hendren (Alfred Hitchcock’s
The Birds and Marnie) and Susan Claassen a.k.a. Edith Head a very big costume designer from the 1920s-1980s. Needless, to say, they both liked my look.

And if you want to wear heels but feel that you can’t and still keep the ballet flat look, go for kitten heels. They’re about an inch and half high. Although I’m a stiletto kind of girl, if that’s what you want, go for it! The lovely Audrey Hepburn wore kitten heels and true to form, she made it look stylish.

And here are a few more pics to show how hot this trend is!

Retro makes a Comeback pt. 1
“Don’t call it a come back, it’s been here for years.” Retro is making a comeback, actually it’s not just coming back it’s here! At the 2011 Golden Globes Awards, Heidi Klum wore a very funky and retro Marc Jacobs dress complete with 70s style hair and bangles.

J.Lo rocked it back in 2001, oh so effortlessly the denim jumpsuit and floppy hat were a staple, and soon everyone followed suit. Even Britney Spears rocked the red vinyl catsuit in her 2001 “Oops…I Did It Again” video inspired by Elizabeth Hurley’s black catsuit in 1997, Austin Powers. The fashion trend that is already here, is very fun and formal.
Formal

Fun

Now onto bell bottom pants. I know it may seem frightening at first but it’s perfectly normal! If done the right way you can look fabulous and not dated. Always important, wear high heels, clogs, and thick heels, not stilettos, especially the funky design kind, it takes away from the fullness of the pants. Always wear a slimming top and make sure it’s tucked in, you can accessorize it with a belt chain or a belt, preferably thin.

If you do wear a top over the waist of the jeans make sure it’s not a full voluminous top or else you’ll look like a tent! Something cute and ruffly with a little flounce will do.

If you want to find another alternative to the bell bottom and still keep the 70s look a flared or wide leg pants will do or you can opt to go for a more feminine look, the wonderful wrap dress designed by Diane von Frustenberg that became a 70s staple, it hides those pesky bulges that you may have and you can sport your floppy hat and clogs along with it!

Either Flip or Flop
This is for all you men out there that think it’s okay to wear flip flops with socks! Dare I say, but someone must say it, this is an absolute no no!

You’re either a flip or a flop, and guys when you wear socks with flip flops, it’s a flop! If you’re the type that hates wearing tennis shoes, there are slip on sandals and flip flops as well as slip on loafers. If you hate wearing sandals or flip flops or it’s cold and you want your feet to stay warm keep them in socks (clean of course) and put on those sneakers! And if you’re the type that hates to lace up your tennis shoes but want to wear socks and those flip flops look tempting get those tennis shoes and slip them on. Yes I know it may be hard but if slipping those tennis shoes on and off without having to re-lace them is the only way to stop this dreadful horror, then so be it!

And word to the wise NO FLIP FLOP SOCKS! Someone must stop the epidemic before it spreads!

NEWSFLASH! THE PRESIDENT WEARS…FLIP FLOPS?!
Presidents have done this before him and will do it after him; wearing casual shoes in public when it fit’s the time and place. President John F. Kennedy had his boat shoes, President Ronald Regan famously wore his cowboy boots and President Richard Nixon wore formal wingtips on the beach. So it is a wonder why there is such a fuss over President Obama wearing flip-flops on vacation in Hawaii. Is this not the appropriate time and place? Vacation+Hawaii=Flip flops. If he’s not wearing them in to any formal event, then what is the hoopla about? He’s the President, they need vacations too.
